The Scroll was accepted on behalf of Mandela by Vice-President of Nigeria, Dr Ekwueme (Alex). Presented by Lord Provost Mr Michael Kelly. The scroll, known as the Burgess Ticket, was to be kept in Government House, Lagos and "when M gains M's freedom in I hope, the not too distant future, he will be able to come to Lagos to receive it"

This award acknowledges the contribution of certain people to the life of the city. It also bestows honour to important visitors to Dublin.

Freedom of the Town of Tongaat

Initially granted in 1989. The silver award was presented by Tongaat Civic Association on their 25 anniversary on 21 October 1994

Brent Council awarded Nelson Mandela the Freedom of the Borough in recognition of his lifelong connection with the borough

Mandela addressed the Willesden Trades Council in 1962. The honour was supposed to have been conferred in April 1990 when Mandela visited Brent but it failed to get the necessary support. Hence this was only done in 2013.
