She was stunned by township poverty and greatly admired the liberation struggle leaders. On 25th August 1993 while taking a colleague home to Guguletu she was killed by PAC activists. Benjamin Pule Leinaeng, or Lee, as everyone called him, had been among the first wave of exiles to leave South Africa in 1960. Lee dedicated his life to becoming a broadcast journalist in service of South African liberation, ultimately going to work for the United Nations' anti-apartheid office. His stepson, film maker Thomas Allen Harris always imagined these young foot soldiers to be the desciples of Nelson Mandela. It was at Lee’s funeral at Bloefomtein in 2000 that Harris had an inkling of the life Lee and his comrades had led and he developed a new respect for Lee. This film is ultimately Harris’s journey of discovery.
