Nelson Mandela International Day in Northwest, 2020.07.18, North West: [Set of 175 Still Images]

The Nelson Mandela Foundation together with its partners the Imbumba Foundation and the Kolisi Foundation launched the #Each1Feed1 Digital Voucher in Potchefstroom, North West Province. The launch was in partnership with Boxer Superstores and Pick ‘n Pay. From Potchefstroom, the partnership team moved to communities in and around Klerksdorp which are suffering from extreme poverty and inequality. A total of 2 000 #Each1Feed1 food packs were delivered, each one designed to support a family for approximately a month.

Launch of Insurgent Citizens: Reflections on Protest in Democratic South Africa Exhibition

The Nelson Mandela Foundation collaborated with the Socio-Economic Rights Institute (SERI) to launch the exhibition Insurgent Citizens- Reflections on Protest in Democratic South Africa at the Foundation’s Centre of Memory. Photographs show guest viewing the exhibition and singing in the Auditorium. The event was facilitated by Sumaya Hendricks and the Former Public Protector Advocate Thuli Madonsela was the keynote speaker.

Mandela’s Death- Who planned for it?

The fifth anniversary of Nelson Mandela’s passing away; a dialogue on the media coverage of the Nelson Mandela’s passing held at Nelson Mandela Foundation. The dialogue was facilitated by Tim Modise a veteran journalist, the panellist were Thabo Masebe Gauteng spokesperson, Government Communication and Information System (GCIS) at the time of Mandela’s passing, Sally Burdett head of eNCA news anchor team, Milton Nkosi, British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC) Africa bureau chief, Angie Kapelianis South African Broadcasting Corporation national radio current affairs editor, Mondli Makhanya City Press editor-in-chief, and Leanne Manas South African TV presenter and media personality. The audience shared their memories of the day and made statements regarding Nelson Mandela leadership and his role in media.

The Nelson Mandela Foundation partnered with the University of South Africa to remember Nelson Mandela Foundation five years after his passing away. The event was headlined by internationally renowned author and activist Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie. Photographs of guests arriving at the venue, ushers, and group photos of NMF trustees, NMF stakeholders, panellist, Mandela family and NMF Staff members with Chimamanda.

Mandela Day: The Next Chapter

The Nelson Mandela Foundation launched a new strategy for International Nelson Mandela Day, titled Mandela Day: The Next Chapter, at the Nelson Mandela Foundation in May 2019. The new strategy charts a new path for the ten-year-old initiative significantly changing the manner in which it will impact on people’s lives. The launch was attended by stakeholders from global organisations, corporate South Africa and civil society organisations - among them, the United Nations, Habitat for Humanity, Vodacom, early childhood development practitioners and national celebrities.
