The 14th Nelson Mandela Annual Lecture 2016 was delivered by Bill Gates on the eve of International Mandela Day at the University of Pretoria’s Mamelodi Campus. Bill Gates, co-chair of the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, addressed the theme “Living Together” in his lecture.
In conversation with Sello Hatang, he was one of the Trek4Mandela climbers in August 2019, he made a presentation and shared his experiences with the Nelson Mandela Foundation staff facilitated by Samantha Mashapa.
The launch of Legacy Ride4Hope initiative held at the Nelson Mandela Foundation and a panel discussion of the riders include Sello Hatang – Nelson Mandela Foundation Chief Executive, Thabo Leeuw- Thesele Chief Executive Officer, and Anne Mclaren- ATC South Africa Chief Executive Officer.
Celebration of 10 years of Mandela Day at Germiston Civic Centre, the event was organised by the City of Ekurhuleni in partnership with the Nelson Mandela Foundation. The City of Ekurhuleni invited city veterans that are 100 years to the celebration.

Habitat for Humanity South Africa in partnership with the Nelson Mandela Foundation and the Department of Human Settlements is honouring Tata Madiba’s legacy by building homes for low-income families at Palm Ridge, City of Ekurhuleni. The Nelson Mandela Foundation invited Chief Khosi Vho Ravele R.R., five learners and five coordinators from Maulume Village to visit the Nelson Mandela Foundation and other legacy sites within Johannesburg. The trip was to give the learners an opportunity to learn about the history of their country as future leaders.

The Nelson Mandela Foundation launched a new strategy for International Nelson Mandela Day, titled Mandela Day: The Next Chapter, at the Nelson Mandela Foundation in May 2019. The new strategy charts a new path for the ten-year-old initiative significantly changing the manner in which it will impact on people’s lives. The launch was attended by stakeholders from global organisations, corporate South Africa and civil society organisations - among them, the United Nations, Habitat for Humanity, Vodacom, early childhood development practitioners and national celebrities.

The Nelson Mandela Foundation collaborated with the Socio-Economic Rights Institute (SERI) to launch the exhibition Insurgent Citizens- Reflections on Protest in Democratic South Africa at the Foundation’s Centre of Memory. The fifth anniversary of Nelson Mandela’s passing away; a dialogue on the media coverage of the Nelson Mandela’s passing held at Nelson Mandela Foundation. The dialogue was facilitated by Tim Modise a veteran journalist, the panellist were Thabo Masebe Gauteng spokesperson, Government Communication and Information System (GCIS) at the time of Mandela’s passing, Sally Burdett head of eNCA news anchor team, Milton Nkosi, British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC) Africa bureau chief, Angie Kapelianis South African Broadcasting Corporation national radio current affairs editor, Mondli Makhanya City Press editor-in-chief, and Leanne Manas South African TV presenter and media personality. The audience shared their memories of the day and made statements regarding Nelson Mandela leadership and his role in media.
The Nelson Mandela Foundation partnered with the University of South Africa to remember Nelson Mandela Foundation five years after his passing away. The event was headlined by internationally renowned author and activist Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie. The Nelson Mandela Foundation pays tributes to Lucia Raadschelders, with family, friends, and colleagues. Following Lucia’s wishes, it was a modest occasion, with the emphasis on storytelling. Three of her nine siblings travelled from the Netherlands to attend. Her brother Jan Raadschelders shared reminiscences from her childhood. A number of her former Operation Vula comrades attested to her courage and her deep commitment to the struggle for freedom in South Africa and elsewhere. Close friends told stories of her love for wilderness and the way in which she had made peace with mortality. Colleagues praised her professionalism as an archivist. And the Deputy Ambassador of the Netherlands shared a message of condolence.
A roundtable training session and Q&A held at the Nelson Mandela Foundation. The training session included a presentation that covered the following topics: Account management and optimization, Product best practice, Campaigning tips, Advertising on Twitter, Account Security, Trust & safety updates, and Twitter's work on the 'health' of the platform.
A visit by two World Economic Forum delegates Alekhine Veloso and David Conolly and Mpumi Mabuza from Brand South Africa to the Nelson Mandela Foundation. Sello Hatang and Zanele Riba gave them a tour of the Archive. Sello handed each delegate of the World Economic Forum with a copy of “The Prison Letters of Nelson Mandela” book.

Sello Hatang gave them a tour to the archive, the permanent exhibition and Nelson Mandela’s office. Cell C's ''Take a Girl Child to Work'' initiative hosted by the Nelson Mandela Foundation in Houghton, is a movement that affords grade 10 to 12 girl learners, the chance to experience a day in the workplace first-hand.
