Nelson Mandela Foundation Head of Leadership and Knowledge Development Verne Harris was a visiting professor at Dominican University in Chicago during its 2018-9 academic year. As the holder of the Follett Chair in information studies, on 16 April he delivered the annual Follett Lecture for 2019 (text attached). The title for the Lecture was A Time to Remember, A Time to Forget: Fred Hampton, Nelson Mandela and the Work of Memory.

The Caring4Girls programme driven by the Imbumba Foundation tackles the plight of impoverished girls who often miss school during their menstrual cycles due to the lack of sanitary pads.
The aim of the Caring4Girls programme, which is a Mandela Day project, is to ensure access to much-needed sanitary towels so girls may stay in school, and ensure the development and growth of young South African women with dignity.

The Nelson Mandela Foundation pays tributes to Lucia Raadschelders, with family, friends, and colleagues. Following Lucia’s wishes, it was a modest occasion, with the emphasis on storytelling. Three of her nine siblings travelled from the Netherlands to attend. Her brother Jan Raadschelders shared reminiscences from her childhood. A number of her former Operation Vula comrades attested to her courage and her deep commitment to the struggle for freedom in South Africa and elsewhere. Close friends told stories of her love for wilderness and the way in which she had made peace with mortality. Colleagues praised her professionalism as an archivist. And the Deputy Ambassador of the Netherlands shared a message of condolence.

Nelson Mandela Centre of Learning is an initiative of the Earthrise Trust. Located in Naledi village on Rustlers Valley farm, near Ficksburg in the Free State and it was opened on the 17th of July 2016.
