Lecture, 2014.08.09, Cape Town: [Set of 80 Still Images]

President Michelle Bachelet of Chile, presenting the 12th Nelson Mandela Annual Lecture on 9 August 2014. This event marks the 52nd anniversary of Mr Mandela’s capture on 5 August 1962.
The lecture was held at the historic City Hall in the City of Cape Town, a significant and poignant venue, as it is from this location that Mr Mandela gave his inaugural address to the people of South Africa after being released from prison in 1990. The theme of the 2014 lecture is "Building social cohesion through active citizenship".
The reception was held immediately after the lecture.

This subseries consists of 28 notebooks written by Nelson Mandela. It covers the period from his release from prison in 1990 to his retirement as president of South Africa in 1999, and up to 2001. It consists of notes of meetings, draft speeches, briefing notes and notes written to himself.

Happy Science, a Tokyo-based international religious organisation, handed over a Mandela Day Container Library to Tshifudi Primary School in Tshifudi Village, Vhembe Municipality, Limpopo, in partnership with the Nelson Mandela Foundation (NMF).
After the passing of Mr. Nelson Mandela, Happy Science established HS Nelson Mandela Fund as its internal fund in order to advance in the will of Mr. Mandela; aiming to nurture future leaders of the world and support people who cannot receive education due to poverty, or racial, gender and caste discrimination, people who are opposed by their government and people who cannot receive medical treatment.
