The Nelson Mandela Legacy RIDE4HOPE aims to create a platform to carry Mandela’s message of hope as it cuts across two provinces; from Vilakazi Street in Soweto (Gauteng) to the Nelson Mandela Capture Site in Howick (KwaZulu-Natal). The ride was 554km, which was split into 4 days, and the photographs show cyclists at Mandela House and on the road and the arrival to Howick.

The legacy of Nelson Mandela was given wings with the unveiling of the Mandela Day logo by South African Airways (SAA) on the first aircraft of its entire fleet. The new branded A330-200 Airbus, fourth out of six new aircraft, was revealed to sponsors and the media at the airways’ technical park in Johannesburg. Siza Mzimela, CEO of SAA in her opening address said, “As an African carrier with global reach, it is only natural for SAA to strengthen its relationship with the Nelson Mandela Foundation by sharing our icon’s message with the world.”

The Nelson Mandela Foundation and Joburg City Parks & Zoo have collaborated to commemorate the 9th anniversary of the passing of Madiba. Over the years, the Foundation has marked the event through dialogue on critical social issues. This year the celebration was marked by a special Nelson Mandela Day convening, opening a park in the Riverlea community. The park will stand in honour of Madiba's legacy, and the values that he espoused. It will be the tangible site for our One Million Tree Campaign, which aims to promote environmental justice, and food security and mitigate the impact of climate change.

Transnet Port Terminals, in partnership with Mandela Day, have created an initiative called “Shoes on Feet”, which aims to collect school shoes for disadvantaged children in key communities. "Shoes on Feet" volunteers distributed the first donations to learners at Isidingo Primary School in Umlazi Township, Durban, before moving to schools in Port Elizabeth and the Western Cape during March.

Happy Science, a Tokyo-based international religious organisation, handed over a Mandela Day Container Library to Tshifudi Primary School in Tshifudi Village, Vhembe Municipality, Limpopo, in partnership with the Nelson Mandela Foundation (NMF).
After the passing of Mr. Nelson Mandela, Happy Science established HS Nelson Mandela Fund as its internal fund in order to advance in the will of Mr. Mandela; aiming to nurture future leaders of the world and support people who cannot receive education due to poverty, or racial, gender and caste discrimination, people who are opposed by their government and people who cannot receive medical treatment.

Nelson Mandela Foundation team together with Miss Universe, Zozibini Tunzi and reigning Miss SA Shudufhadzo Musida visited the White City Old Age Home. The NMF Chief Executive reflected on Madiba’s words when he said “Your parents & elders sacrificed much so that you should have freedom without suffering what they did”.
