The Nelson Mandela Foundation honoured the 10th anniversary of Madiba’s passing on 5 December with the 21st instalment of the Nelson Mandela Annual Lecture, with Nobel Peace Prize laureate Malala Yousafzai as the speaker. The lecture, held at the Joburg Theatre, attracted a diverse audience of local and international dignitaries, who warmly received Yousafzai's thought-provoking address. The lecture was held at the historic City Hall in the City of Cape Town, a significant and poignant venue, as it is from this location that Mr Mandela gave his inaugural address to the people of South Africa after being released from prison in 1990. The theme of the 2014 lecture is "Building social cohesion through active citizenship".
The reception was held immediately after the lecture.

Dr Ibrahim’s address focused on the need for social cohesion not only in South Africa, but also between the 54 nations that make up the African continent.
