Have you found something of interest in the Centre of Memory’s Archive?

The Nelson Mandela Foundation’s mission is to contribute to the making of a just society by mobilising the legacy of Nelson Mandela, providing public access to information on his life and times, and convening dialogue on critical social issues. Wherever possible we release works for public use, however the vast majority of photographs, audio and video footage on Mandela is NOT held by the Nelson Mandela Foundation, and therefore the NMF cannot supply these to third parties (for more information see document on sources).

The digital objects on this site are mostly watermarkerd thumbnail images provided in 72 ppi (pixels per inch) for web resolution, which means the print quality of these images will be low. If you require a high-resolution image for personal use or fair dealing purposes, or if you require content for commercial use - Broadcast, Exhibition or Publication - you will need to contact the Archive Team for more information.

Any use of images from the Archive (whether for personal research, non-commercial purposes, educational use, commercial use or publication) must be accompanied by a citation with the following information: “Title, date. Creator. Reference number. Nelson Mandela Foundation, Johannesburg.”

As per our Service Charter, the Archive Team receive and respond to enquiries within 10 working days, however during peak periods for the Foundation we will let you know if there will be a delay to this commitment.
