Two copper certificates housed within a dark brown leather folder. Leather folder has a copper circular sun symbol on the front cover, along with a copper plate that reads: Jawaharlal Nehru Award for International Understanding to Nelson Mandela 1979." Back cover has the image of a rose/lily on a rectangular copper plate.
Inside the folder, two plates are wrapped in plastic. The first plate is in Hindi. The second plate is in English and is engraved, in black, with the following:

Nelson Mandela of South Africa is such an embodiment of the heroic spirit. The Jawaharlal Nehru Award for International Understanding has been conferred upon him in recognition of his fight against oppression and race prejudice, and in the cause of human brotherhood and equality.
