Presented to
The honorable Nelson Mandela President
The Republic of South Africa
On the occasion for recognizing the importance of literacy and education in South Africa and in the world, The Ebenezer African Methodist Episcopal Church, Evanston, Illinois, USA applauds this illustrious man for his vision and contributions to bring freedom, stability, and dignity to his people.
A committed champion of freedom, Mandela's undaunted faith and refusal to equivocate in the face of mounting obstacles ushered him to a position of preeminence, not only in South Africa, but in the world, as he struggled to pave the way for democratic society.
Determined to fight injustice at every level, Bishop J Haskell Mayo of the 4th Episcopal District of the A.M.E. Church joins with Ebenezer A.M.E. Church, Pastor James C Wade and bishop McKinley Young of the 15th Episcopal District of South Africa in lending support to the propagation of literacy and education are inescapable essentials of a free society now and in the future, we stand in solidarity with others whose prayers and resources will help brighten the future for those hitherto denied.
We salute your impassioned zeal in leading others to see things that never were and to ask "Why not?". You havei nfused hope for millions and stimulated the atmosphere for positive change to take place. May peace, well being, and goodwill attend your leadership.
