The President's Medal of Excellence conferred upon Mr Mandela from Bowie State University in Bowie, Maryland, USA
Bronze and silver medal inside black leather case with gold detailing. Case also includes a cream-coloured notecard, inside a cream coloured envelope addressed to "The Honorable Nelson Mandela." Card describes medal. It reads:
The President's Medal of Excellence
Presented to the Honorable Nelson Mandela on this Twenty-Seventh Day of June, Nineteen Hundred Ninety
The Medal of Excellence was commissioned by the University in 1989. It is composed of solid sterling silver on cast bronze, with a gold brocade on a black velvet collar.
This is the second presentation of the Medal. The first was made to the Reverend Benjamin Lawson Hooks, Executive Director of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP), on May Twelfth, Nineteen Hundred Ninety.

Award presented to Mr Mandela for Education in Muslim Ummah: Present Realities and Future Aspirations, Pakistan
Green plastic plaque with affixed gold, red, blue, and black plate. Plaque is housed in a rectangular green velvet box with metal clasps, 2 gold fabric rope borders around the outer edges and 2 decorative gold bands across the cover. Inside cover lined with white satin fabric while bottom is lined with green velvet.
Plaque box is housed inside a larger green velvet box with the International Islamic University Islamabad logo on the lid. Plaque shares the box with International Islamic University Islamabad Honorary doctorate degree (A0204).
Plaque includes the multi-coloured International Islamic University Islamabad logo at the top. Center text, in black, is in Arabic. Text wrapping around center text, in blue, reads: Education in Muslim Ummah: Present Realities and Future Aspirations.
