Papers of Lillian Masediba Ngoyi the collection is made up of Lillian Ngoyi's biography, Newsclippings and lots of correspondence that Mrs Ngoyi wrote to Mr. and Mrs. Allan in Switzerland among the letters expressing there are two letters referring to Mr. Nelson Mandela. In one letter Mrs. Ngoyi expresses pleasure that the South African authorities granted her permission to visit Nelson Mandela. The other letter is written while travelling in the train to Cape Town to meet Nelson Mandela, Mrs Ngoyi describes the scenery in detail and expresses the joy of being able to travel without any restrictions and further explains that he expects to be see Madiba on the 25th August 1973.

An important component of the collection includes material confiscated at Lilliesleaf farm in Rivonia, such as Mandela's 1962 diary and other documents in his handwriting, most of them relating to armed struggle. It also includes Mandela's statement from the dock, and the State's concluding address. A significant part of the collection includes materials used to build up the State's case against the Rivonia Trialists.

Celebration of 10 years of Mandela Day at Germiston Civic Centre, the event was organised by the City of Ekurhuleni in partnership with the Nelson Mandela Foundation. The City of Ekurhuleni invited city veterans that are 100 years to the celebration.

The Launch of Mandela Day took place at the Tlatlohang Primary School, a disadvantaged school situated in White City, Jabavu As the emphasis for Nelson Mandela Day 2012 is being placed on raising youth through decent education, the Nelson Mandela Centre of Memory – in collaboration with the Department of Basic Education – is driving some of South Africa’s most meaningful initiatives, namely the Container Library Project and the 94+ Schools Project, inspired to improve the conditions of our more impoverished schools and encourage literacy to children within our historically disadvantaged communities.
