Signing the constitution of the Republic of South Africa, Sharpeville, 10 December 1996, with (from right) Cyril Ramaphosa and mayor of the Lekoa-Vaal Metropolitan Council, Yunus Chamda. At Libertas, the presidential residence in Pretoria, which Nelson Mandela renamed Mahlamba Ndlopfu, meaning. ‘The New Dawn’ in Xitsonga or, literally, ‘the washing of the elephants’.

International Mandela Dialogues, 2013-2014: [Set of 192 Images ]

Series of three dialogues in partnership between GIZ and NMF. The first was held in South Africa in November 2013, the second in Cambodia in 5-8 March 2014, and the third in July 2014 in Berlin. 26 participants from 10 countries where invited to explore the role of memory and of archives in post-conflict and post-oppression scenarios.

The Great Park Synagoge hosted a 67 minutes drive to collect blankets, clothes and non-perishable foods.
The Friends of the Inner City spent 67 minutes cleaning Lorna Court in Johannesburg's CBD as part of their ‘ Build your Neighbourhood’ initiative.
The Conference Connection donated food and gifts to St Martins’ Children’s home and blankets to Reservoir Hills residents in Durban

A baby named after Mandela
Moyo restaurant took party packs, face painters and drummers to the Umthombo Street Children in Durban and the Charlotte Maxeke hospital in Johannesburg. They also provided entertainment at a care centre for disabled children in Khayelitsha.
Roedean School collected blankets and food for organisations which care for orphans and vulnerable children.

Sea slug called Mandelia Micocornata named after Mandela by the marine biologists, Angel Vlades and Terry Gosliner who discovered it, as an honour to him

It is regarded as something of an honour to have a species of organism named after you. To have a genus named after you is even more of an honour because new genera are less often named than new species. However, an even greater honour is to have a family named after you because new families are rarely created. Valdés & Gosliner (1999) honoured Nelson Mandela by naming a genus and family of seaslug (Mollusca: Nudibranchia) after him. Mandelia mirocornata has only been recorded along the coast line of the Cape Peninsula.

Chancellor House, the former site of Nelson Mandela and Oliver Tambo’s law firm, is in the background.The sculpture portrays Nelson Mandela as a young amateur boxer, and is based on a famous picture by photographer Bob Gosani. The Shadow Boxer was commissioned by the Johannesburg Development Agency in partnership with the City of Jobannesburg.

Mandela Poster Project Collective was initiated by a group of South Africa designers to celebrate Nelson Mandela's life by collecting 95 exceptional posters from around the world, honouring his lifelong contribution to humanity

The collection was curated and will be exhibited around the world and eventually be auctioned by the Nelson Mandela Children's Hospital Trust to raise funds. Many more than 95 posters were received and plans are under way to produce a limited edition publication.
