The Nelson Mandela Foundation launched a new strategy for International Nelson Mandela Day, titled Mandela Day: The Next Chapter, at the Nelson Mandela Foundation in May 2019. The new strategy charts a new path for the ten-year-old initiative significantly changing the manner in which it will impact on people’s lives. The launch was attended by stakeholders from global organisations, corporate South Africa and civil society organisations - among them, the United Nations, Habitat for Humanity, Vodacom, early childhood development practitioners and national celebrities.
Former Nelson Mandela Foundation Photo Archivist Lucia Raadschelders received the Posthumous Order of the Companions of O.R Tambo in Silver Award bestowed by President Cyril Ramaphosa. The Raadschelders family donated the award to the Foundation.

The Nelson Mandela Foundation invited Chief Khosi Vho Ravele R.R., five learners and five coordinators from Maulume Village to visit the Nelson Mandela Foundation and other legacy sites within Johannesburg. Kaya FM 6.7 KM walk and run which started at Nelson Mandela Square ended at Sandton City Rooftop, in honour of Nelson Mandela centenary and celebration of Madiba value.
The Touwsrivier Heritage and Conservation Society hosted a Memorial Stone Unveiling Ceremony at the Gideon Joubert Memorial Park, Jane Street, Touwsrivier, in the honour of the personal sacrifices of the Mandela Family and to commemorate 50th anniversary since the passing away of Thembekile Mandela and others who died in a car accident just outside Touwsrivier on 13 July 1969.
Ndileka and Nandi Mandela, daughters of the late Madiba Thembekile Mandela unveiled the Memorial Stone, planted two trees near the entrance of Touwsrivier and also planted an Aloe at the accident site along the N1, while Mayor Alderman Antoinette Steyn and Deputy Mayor unveiled an information sign detailing the story surrounding the accident.

The roundtable dialogue hosted by the Nelson Mandela Foundation in collaboration with the Public Affairs Research Institute (PARI) and the Wits History Workshop. The dialogue sought to discuss the origins of the Ingonyama Trust and its implications for the people of Kwa-Zulu Natal. The Ingonyama Trust is a land trust established before the first democratic elections in 1994 administered by the Zulu King.

The late former president of South Africa’s younger sister, Nomabandla Leaby Mandela also attended Orlando High in 1945 and her son, Makgatho Mandela later joined the school in 1967 along with Zwelakhe Sisulu.
The South African Reserve Bank (SARB) launch its first commemorative banknote series, in celebration of the first democratically elected president Nelson Mandela’s birth centenary.
